Mark Trammell Trio

Mark Trammell founded the Mark Trammell Trio in 2002 as an evangelistic ministry. The group’s original lineup featured Eric Phillips singing tenor and Joseph Smith singing lead. Phillips is the son of former Kingsmen tenor Ernie Phillips; Joseph Smith had sung lead for the Booth Brothers.
In fall 2005, Joseph Smith left the group, citing a non-life-threatening health condition. After a search of several months, Mark Trammell hired Dustin Sweatman, who at the time was the baritone singer for Ed O’Neal’s Dixie Melody Boys, as Smith’s replacement. Vocal coach Steve Hurst, who had filled in for Smith on vocals and keyboards, joined the group as group pianist at the same time.
